About Me

Audrey "Nikki" Thompson

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) dedicated to providing a safe, compassionate, and empowering space for patients navigating the complexities of mental health. By moving away from large-scale clinical settings into a private practice model, I am able to prioritize a personalized approach that centers on your unique story. My goal is to combine clinical expertise with a supportive environment where you feel truly heard and respected throughout your wellness journey.  You can find me located at PsychSolutions in Baxter Springs, KS.

What's In a Name

A Note on My Name: Audrey "Nikki" Thompson

You may see me referred to as either Audrey or Nikki Thompson, and I’d like to share a bit of the history behind both. My given name, Audrey, is a tribute of sorts to my beloved grandmother. To honor that legacy while maintaining a personal touch, I have gone by Nikki—a variation of my middle name—since childhood.

While my academic degrees and professional licenses are officially registered under Audrey Thompson, I prefer to go by Nikki Thompson in my daily practice and personal life. Whether you know me as Audrey or Nikki, my commitment to your care remains the same.

My Clinical Philosophy

Mental health care is not just about managing symptoms—it’s about helping you thrive. At my practice in PsychSolutions, I combine clinical expertise with a grounded, down-to-earth approach that prioritizes human connection. Whether you are dealing with long-standing challenges or seeking support for the first time, my goal is to make the path forward feel clear and manageable. I specialize in treating:

  • Anxiety & Depression

  • ADHD (Adult Diagnostics and Management)

  • Mood Disorders

  • Life Transitions & Family Dynamics

My style is collaborative and practical. Together, we will develop a tailored treatment plan that integrates medication management with supportive psychotherapy techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based strategies.

Education & Professional Credentials

I hold undergraduate nursing degrees from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO and  University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) as well as a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).  Beyond formal classroom education I bring years of experience in diverse healthcare settings to my psychiatric practice.

  • Board Certification: Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

  • Kansas License: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

  • Missouri License: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

Beyond the Clinic

When I’m not in the office or connecting with patients via telehealth, my life is fueled by the beautiful, busy chaos of being a working mom to three kids.

Living and working in the Four States, I understand the "mental load" of balancing a career, family schedules, and personal well-being. Whether I’m cheering from the sidelines, embracing my role as a dance mom, or managing a busy household of five, I understand life is busy —and my experience as a mother deeply informs my clinical work.

I know that life doesn’t happen in a vacuum. I bring a grounded, real-world perspective to every session, helping you manage life's competing demands and find a sense of genuine balance—without the judgment.

Need to connect?

I am currently accepting new patients for both in-person appointments at our Baxter Springs, KS office—conveniently serving the Joplin, MO, Miami, OK, and Pittsburg, KS areas—as well as online telehealth sessions throughout Kansas.
